Young Adults

Young Adults is a growing group of 30+ people (ages 18 to mid-20s) with a variety of faith and educational backgrounds, interests, schools and jobs, single and married. We share a desire to know God and discover who we are in Christ. We meet together to deepen our relationship with God, connect, laugh, share meals, learn and serve as part of a community of faith.

Our faith is not just about getting answers; it is also about asking questions. We are journeying through this process together. This happens in a variety of ways ... see below for details. If you need a ride or more info, contact Susan Gowan.

Join a Small Group to Connect

To connect throughout the week, join a small group. We currently have two small groups beginning in the fall ... an excellent way for you to grow in your faith and your relationship with God. It's a place where you can ask questions, debate, get into the Bible and share your views on various topics in a home group atmosphere.

One group is geared primarily to those in the 18-21 age group at the home of Jon/Amanda Huson in north London off Oxford. This group will be led by Matt and Betsy Campbell and Jon and Amanda.

The second group is geared more to the 21-26+ age group, either further on in post-secondary education or in the workforce. This group will be led by Lisa Bowering/Sarah Kuhn/Laura Wheaton – location to be announced.

Sunday Lunches

We know as students that sharing meals with others is so important – you need time to get to know one another and catch up on the busyness of the week. Twice a month, plan to either enjoy a meal after church downstairs together or we’ll go to a nearby restaurant after the service. Check the weekly bulletin or the website Upcoming Events for details and dates (tentatively Sep. 21, Oct. 5 , Oct. 19, Nov. 2, Nov 16).

Through the Roof

We encourage the Young Adults to get together and attend Through The Roof, an outreach ministry on the campus of the University of Western Ontario. Through The Roof has monthly events in the Wave on campus during the school year – check their calendar on their website – usually the last Sunday of the month. Great speakers, good music, awesome company.

Digging Deeper Dinners - Stretching Your Mind

Do you really want to wrestle with those tough faith questions? Join us once a month and bring whoever you want for challenging conversations over a good meal in safe surroundings. Learn about others' faith journeys. During our first dinner in September, we will create a list of things we would like to explore. Or we may decide to work through RELEVANT magazine's 10 ten spiritual movies of the decade and figure out why on earth they picked those ones!!!

We always meet at the Gowans' place (169 Baseline Road East). Upcoming dates are Saturday Sep 27, Saturday Oct 25 and Saturday Nov 22.

Upcoming Events - Try New Things

Besides everything you're reading above, we also have a full slate of special events scheduled for the upcoming months, happening both at VG and other locations. There is a great conference to consider “Why everything must change” at the Meeting House in Oakville on September 19th, 20th where Brian Mclaren, Dave Toycen from World Vision, Bruxy Cavey and others will be speaking. See www.ychange.ca for more details.

And on October 17th and 18th , there is a UNITE conference (www.uniteproductions.com) in Cambridge, Ontario focusing on worship and equipping leaders for ministry. Calvin Miler and Leonard Sweet are speaking and Paul Baloche and Robin Mark are leading in worship.

Service - Making a Difference

Many of our Young Adults serve as part of our church community on worship teams, with ESL conversational classes, helping in the children’s ministry or as youth leaders with Junior High and Senior High. Find out how you can be involved. Email Sue Gowan.
